Powering Precision in Mexico: An Interview with Víctor Hugo Madero, Director of SMTVYS

As Mexico continues to cement its role as a manufacturing powerhouse in the global electronics landscape, the importance of trusted local partners becomes ever more critical. One company at the forefront of this shift is SMTVYS, an established distributor and service provider specializing in electronics assembly equipment and process solutions. Headquartered in Mexico, SMTVYS has built a reputation for technical excellence, responsive service, and strong partnerships with globally recognized brands. We sat down with Víctor Hugo Madero, Director of SMTVYS, to discuss the company’s origin, evolution, and role in helping customers across Mexico navigate increasingly complex electronics manufacturing requirements.

Víctor, how did SMTVYS get started and what was your vision in launching the company?

SMTVYS was founded in 2004 with a clear purpose: to bridge the gap between advanced global technologies and the local manufacturing sector in Mexico. At the time, I recognized that while the electronics industry was growing here, many manufacturers struggled with access to technical support, equipment expertise, and reliable distribution channels. Our goal from day one was to be more than just a reseller, we wanted to be a true partner to our customers, helping them improve quality, productivity, and competitiveness.

What are SMTVYS’s core areas of business today?

We operate primarily as a full-service distributor and integrator for electronics assembly and inspection equipment. This includes pick-and-place machines, AOI and SPI systems, reflow ovens, conformal coating systems, soldering solutions, and more. But what sets us apart is the added value we provide, including pre-sales consultation, installation, application support, training, preventive maintenance, and repair services. We work closely with both multinational corporations and local EMS providers across Mexico.

How does SMTVYS support customers across different regions of Mexico?

We’ve built a strong footprint throughout the country, with offices and technical support teams in Guadalajara, Tijuana, Ciudad Juárez, Querétaro, and Monterrey. Each region has its own strengths: some focus more on automotive, others on consumer electronics or medical devices. By maintaining regional offices, we can provide localized support and quick response times, which are critical in this industry. We also conduct on-site demos, workshops, and preventive service programs regularly.

What are the most common challenges you see among electronics manufacturers in Mexico?

One major challenge is staying competitive amid rising complexity. Customers are under pressure to produce higher-mix, lower-volume products with shorter lead times, all while maintaining strict quality standards. There’s also the talent gap. We see a growing need for skilled operators and process engineers. At SMTVYS, we try to address both by offering automation-ready solutions and extensive hands-on training for operators and technicians. Technology alone is not enough. People must be empowered to use it effectively.

How would you describe SMTVYS’s approach to customer relationships?

Very personal and long-term focused. We don’t believe in transactional sales. We work closely with our customers to understand their pain points, production goals, and technology roadmap. Then we craft a solution that fits not just for today, but for the future. In many cases, we’ve supported our customers from their first SMT line to their latest multi-line, high-capacity facilities. Our clients know they can count on us for technical integrity, transparency, and support well beyond the installation phase.

With nearshoring trends growing, how has SMTVYS adapted to the recent changes in the industry landscape?

Nearshoring has accelerated demand, especially in sectors like automotive electronics, industrial controls, and telecom infrastructure. Many OEMs are now asking their suppliers to establish a manufacturing presence in Mexico. We’ve seen a sharp increase in inquiries from both new entrants and established companies expanding their local operations. To support this, we’ve expanded our engineering team, added more demo units, and strengthened our partnerships with equipment OEMs to reduce delivery lead times. We’ve also seen increased interest in smart factory solutions. More companies are embracing data-driven manufacturing.

What are your goals for SMTVYS in the next few years?

Our vision is to remain the most trusted and technically capable equipment solutions provider in Mexico. That means continuing to invest in our people, strengthening our service infrastructure, and deepening our collaborations with both suppliers and customers. We are also exploring expansion into adjacent areas such as test automation, factory software, and Industry 4.0 integration. Ultimately, our mission is to empower Mexican manufacturing to compete globally through technology and support that is world-class and locally delivered.

What do you want customers to know about working with SMTVYS?

I’d say that when you work with SMTVYS, you’re gaining a true partner. We understand the unique challenges of operating in Mexico, and we bring a local presence with global knowledge. Whether you’re launching a new line, upgrading existing processes, or facing production challenges, our team is here to help from concept to production and beyond. We’re passionate about this industry and honored to support the manufacturers that power Mexico’s role on the global electronics stage.
