Scienscope has introduced several new technologies recently, including the STORAGE TOWER (WH-TWR-2000). What industry challenges was this system designed to solve?
Today’s SMT manufacturers are under heavy pressure to improve traceability, reduce material handling errors, and maximize factory floor utilization. As production environments become more high-mix and high-volume, traditional manual component storage methods cannot keep up. The WH-TWR-2000 Automated Storage Tower was developed to address those pain points.
The system provides high-capacity automated storage for reels while protecting moisture-sensitive and ESD-sensitive components. What makes the technology really valuable is its ability to automate retrieval, reduce operator dependency, and provide full inventory traceability in real time. Manufacturers can significantly reduce misplaced inventory, eliminate unnecessary reel handling, and improve production flow.
Beyond storage itself, the tower integrates directly into existing manufacturing workflows and smart factory initiatives. Customers are looking for scalable automation that supports Industry 4.0 strategies, and the Storage Tower is a major step in that direction.
How does the WH-TWR-2000 fit into Scienscope’s broader smart factory vision?
At Scienscope, we are focused on building a complete intelligent material management ecosystem rather than standalone machines. The Storage Tower complements our broader automation portfolio, including Smart Rack systems, IMS inventory management solutions, AGVs, and X-ray component counters.

One of the company’s biggest recent introductions is the AXI-8000 3D CT system. What differentiates this platform from conventional X-ray inspection technologies?
The AXI-8000 represents a major advancement in automated X-ray inspection technology. Traditional 2D X-ray systems are effective for many applications, but as assemblies become denser and more complex, manufacturers need far more detailed inspection capability.
The AXI-8000 uses fully automated 3D CT inspection with advanced 360-degree scanning and simultaneous scan-and-reconstruction technology. This enables users to generate complete 3D datasets and view arbitrary XY cross-sectional slices without damaging the PCB.
That level of inspection is extremely important for identifying hidden defects such as voiding, head-in-pillow issues, insufficient solder, bridging, and internal structural anomalies that can be difficult or impossible to detect using traditional inspection methods.
Additionally, the system’s large X-ray cone angle improves vertical resolution while maintaining high-speed throughput. Manufacturers today cannot sacrifice speed for accuracy. The AXI-8000 was designed to provide both.
Electronics manufacturers are demanding increasingly higher reliability. How does the AXI-8000 support those requirements?
Reliability requirements are rising across virtually every sector, especially aerospace, automotive electronics, medical devices, and advanced industrial applications. In many of these industries, a single hidden defect can lead to catastrophic product failure.
The AXI-8000 allows manufacturers to inspect complex assemblies nondestructively with an extremely high level of detail. That capability helps improve process control, increase yields, and reduce costly escapes into the field.
As component packaging becomes smaller and PCB architectures become more sophisticated, inspection technology has to evolve alongside it. We believe 3D CT inspection will become increasingly essential for manufacturers focused on high-reliability production environments.
Scienscope has also expanded its automation portfolio with AGV technology. Why is automated material transport becoming so important in SMT manufacturing?
Material movement is one of the most overlooked inefficiencies in electronics manufacturing. Operators often spend valuable time transporting reels, feeders, and materials across the factory floor instead of focusing on higher-value tasks.
Our AGV solutions automate that process. They move reels and feeders efficiently between storage locations, kitting stations, and production lines, helping maintain continuous SMT operations.
As labor shortages continue to impact manufacturing globally, automation becomes increasingly important. AGVs help manufacturers reduce dependency on manual logistics while improving speed, consistency, and traceability throughout the production environment.
The future factory will rely heavily on autonomous material flow, and we intend to remain at the forefront of that transition.
Another product receiving significant attention is the SMART RACK (WH-SR1-JM24). What makes this solution unique?
The Smart Rack was designed to simplify and modernize reel storage management. While it may appear straightforward on the surface, the system delivers significant operational advantages.
The WH-SR1-JM24 provides intelligent reel storage with automated detection and precise inventory tracking. It integrates seamlessly with Scienscope’s component counters, IMS systems, and MES/ERP software environments.
One feature customers particularly appreciate is the automated slot assignment functionality using LED guidance. Operators can quickly identify exactly where materials belong, which significantly reduces storage errors and retrieval time.
The Smart Rack also supports highly accurate inventory visibility. Manufacturers always know what inventory they have and exactly where it is located. That sounds simple, but inventory inaccuracies remain a major hidden cost across many SMT operations.
Scienscope has evolved from an inspection equipment company into a much broader automation provider. How does that position the company differently from competitors?
